Meeting Summary from "Coffee with Mayor Maher Maso"
August 21st, 2008 12:59 PM

On the 2nd Monday of each month, Mayor Maher Maso meets with the residents of Frisco.  During the meeting, it is expressed that this is very informal and the Mayor welcomes any and all topics.  Joining us today was the City Manager (George Purefoy) and the Planning & Development Manager (John Lettellier).

Below I tried to recap the topics discussed and will be happy to answer any questions you may have based on what was discussed.  If you would like further clarification, I welcome you to join the meeting each month and hear first hand what plans our Mayor has for our wonderful city.  Typically, there are between 25-30 attendees.

Population - In April 2008, Frisco officially made it to 100,000.  Many signs still reflect old data, as well as some websites that talk about Frisco.  As of July, we are over 102,000 and growing.

Grand Park - If you are not familiar with this park, I suggest visiting my past post (Grand Park) which also includes a link to the proposed map of the park.  Overall the park is expected to be about 275 acres and will be a beautiful place to hang out and blog.

Skate Park - Plans are being discussed to add a Skate Park in Frisco.  Something similar to the one located in Grapevine, but nothing has been finalized.  Since this is still in the early discussion mode, the location, size, etc. has not been discussed.  As the information becomes available, I'll be happy to provide the update.  Stay tuned for future updates over the next few months.

Frisco Heritage Musuem - Many people were not aware of the Frisco Heritage Musuem which recently opened.  The park is located at 6455 Page Street in Downtown Frisco.  It is becoming more and more popular as visitors come to Babe's Chicken (also new to the area).  The musuem had 718 visitors in July which is almost double the amount of visitors in June.  For more information, visit Frisco Heritage Musuem.

Other general information was provided such as Frisco always being 'in the mix' when it comes to competing for business.  Many times, Frisco is the 2nd or 3rd on the list when a company is thinking about relocating.  In the past, other big cities were able to provide bigger $$$ to throw around.  We have put ourselves in a good position to compete over the past few years with the addition of Pizza Hut Park, Roughrider's Stadium, and Dallas Star Center just to name a few.  They are attempting to fill some empty buildings, such as the empty Brookshire's and Albertson's buildings.  When a companies relocate to Frisco, it helps us generate additional revenue and avoids the cause to raise taxes.  The budget shows an increase in revenue but the amount of expenses have increased as well.  There are ongoing meetings to discuss ways of bringing in additional revenue.

The meeting lasted a little over 1 hour.  The Mayor does not rush anyone with questions or answers.  I welcome you to join us each month, on the 2nd Monday @ 8 am.  Meetings are held in the City Hall Building, 5th floor.
